Once you have established your basic wardrobe, your foundation is set. As you purchase more suits you can add variations of color and style. The same with the shirts and ties. However I would always purchase at least two ties with every suit, so you can mix and match. I would not purchase winter or summer suits until you have at least 12 suits in your closet. You should take an inventory of what you have. How many suits, dress shirts, ties, and accessories. Decide how big you want your wardrobe to be. Here are some simple tips on building a professional wardrobe:
- Find a custom tailor you can trust (see Custom vs Rack) – The custom tailor can be your best friend.
- Decide how often you are going to purchase clothes. Once, Twice, or Three times
- Labels are for accessories such as Ties. My favorite is Brioni.
You have spent a lot of money on your future. Your education was very expensive don’t waste it on dressing like a slob. People notice the well dressed man. People look at you differently treat you differently. You feel more confident and by feeling more confident you will perform better at your job. There have been numerous studies that show that production of a professional is increased when they are wearing formal business attire. Friday’s have become the most unproductive day of the week partly because its “Casual Friday”. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind not wearing a tie once in awhile, but I feel much more productive when I am dressed.
You have invested time and money into your career. I think its time to invest time and money into your wardrobe.
